Plantar warts, also known as verrucae, are predominantly found in the heel and ball of the foot or at the toes. They can also occur on the back of the foot and ankle. The primary causative bacteria is Staphylococcus aureus. Clinically, they tend to be stubborn and hard to treat. The disease course is typically prolonged, manifesting as chronic conditions with a high incidence rate. For viral warts, initial treatment can involve 3% salicylic acid solution or 10% acetic acid solution soaks. Once the wart becomes dry, topical antifungal agents can be applied. For necrotic warts, salicylic acid solution can be used to facilitate healing before applying foot powder, tea tree oil, ciclopirox olamine powder, etc. For corneous or keratotic plantar warts, softening agents like salicylic acid ointment can be used.
