What is Beriberi,

    Beriberi generally refers to a disease caused by deficiency of Vitamin B1 (Thiamine), which is one of the common nutritional deficiency diseases. It can be categorized as dry beriberi and wet beriberi. The former, characterized by nerve damage in the foot area, is referred to as dry beriberi. The latter, presenting with symptoms similar to heart failure, is called wet beriberi. There’s also a common term for beriberi, known as infectious beriberi, which refers to infection of the foot by fungi.
